To celebrate 145 years of Errington Reay pottery the creatives at the wheel and heart of ER have created a number of limited edition planters for you to enjoy and treasure. Each planter shape has been chosen for its practicalities in planting. Combining classical styles that have been made throughout our long history, united with forward thinking and fresh design elements that set these special pots apart from our regular range and celebrate our heritage and love for pottery. These pots are placed high in the kiln during the firing process to capture the very best colouring and variations created in our Beehive kiln. Fired to high temperatures and salt glazed using traditional methods which have stood the the test of time and produce a frost proof pot. It wouldn't be a birthday celebration, without including one of our most beloved shapes which also nods towards the beginnings of ER's pottery journey. Updated for 2023 by using a mix of white and high temperature firing clay to create a new creamy salt glazed base and decorated with a slip coloured, hand etched, textured body. Salt glazed, white clay cylinder with a widened opening which is ribbed on the inside at the top. Decorated with a hand etched design inspired by the countryside surrounding the pottery here in Northumberland and the joy it brings in spring. Features our newest stamped design at the base, created by Karl and showing the traditional beehive kiln in which our salt glazed pots are fired along with the Roman numerals to mark 23 the year in which this piece was made.

Handmade in small batches, this limited edition cylinder pot celebrates 145 years of Errington Reay. Combining the very beginnings of the pottery, in its design that echo's the drainage pipes that were at the core of production in the early days of the factory. Brought up to date with an abstract repeated print of the ER logo to give you a unique planter for the garden.

Taking influence from Seaton Delaval Hall and the English baroque style architecture and design by Vanbrugh.
The cylinder has been wheel thrown with a turned rim and base. Deep ridges have been carved using specialist tools and measured by eye to replicate the coloumns that flag the entrance of Seaton Delaval Hall. Decorative rope swirl handles have been added to each side of the cylinder and finished with a circle sprig.
Natural earthy colours from an ER handmade glaze sweep the outside of this piece on a matt body. Inside is smooth with a transparent glaze that highlights the natural body of the clay.
No drainage hole in base.
