However, this guarantee is dependant upon you ensuring
adequate drainage to protect against water remaining in
the pot during a frost. Good drainage is essential and
it's good for your plants as well.

Fill
the lower quarter of the container with crocks, broken
pottery, bricks stone or gravel.
Ensure
the drainage hole never gets blocked. Raise the container
from the ground, using pot feet.
Use
good potting compost. It provides good drainage and
plants thrive on it. Garden soil is not recommended.
Use
a combination of pot feet and saucer to make a container
safe for indoor use. It is essential that there is
a gap to allow air to flow under the saucer to prevent
condensation and spillage onto carpets or wooden floors.
